Introduction to User Experience Design and Principles

User experience design describes the scientific approach to creating effective online experiences. This two hour workshop is an introduction to user experience design and usability for those who work in other functional areas, come from a traditional graphic arts/web design background, or are new to the startup world entirely.

The workshop is structured such that there will be 90 minutes focusing on UX methodology, documentation and best practices, with another 30 minutes for a structured paired activity.

Student Takeaways (Learning Objectives):

• Describe what the field of UX encompasses and how it relates to other disciplines
• Identify the different roles within UX and the responsibilities of each
• Use the five Core Componenets of Usability to evaluate web and mobile experiences

About the Instructors

Skot Carruth started making websites in 1994, just four years after Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web. Skot started his first e-commerce business in 1997, and consulted for small businesses throughout high school and college. After a brief stint in investment banking, he came back to his digital roots to co-found philosophie. He currently heads up User Experience Strategy at philosophie, where he and his team create awesome experiences...and then make them better.
